Four Common Types of Eczema

Although you may be familiar with atopic dermatitis, otherwise known as eczema, did you know that there are a number of different eczema types? There are a plethora of different kinds of eczema that you too may be suffering from. Here are four types that you will want to familiarize yourself with.

1. Atopic dermatitis

This is by far the most common type of eczema that is known for itchy, inflamed skin. Typically it is known for developing from an abnormal function of the body’s immune system. With this type, the symptoms and conditions may come and go throughout time.

2. Contact eczema

This type consists of redness, itching and burning wherever the skin has touched some kind of allergen. You may also pick up symptoms from touching irritants like acid and cleaning products as well.

3. Seborrheic eczema

Unlike some of the other eczema types, you may find symptoms of yellowish, oily, scaly patches of skin on your scalp, face and other parts of the body. As with the other types, there are a number of different causes including stress, oily skin, and varying weather conditions.

4. Neurodermatitis

The last type of eczema to keep an eye out for is neurodermatitis. This is caused by a scratch-itch cycle and is a chronic skin inflammation. Women are far more likely to develop this and it is most common between the ages of 20 and 50.
